The science of sustainable farming practices has come a long way in the more than 300 years since forest conversion to agriculture on the Eastern Shore. Using this knowledge, LESEN would like to help provide education, networking, and advocacy to help build a sustainable foodshed, where food flows from farm and fishery to table in ways that strengthen farming and reduce runoff, sedimentation, pesticides and herbicides; protect land, water, and air; and provide local, healthy, nutritious food that sustains the region’s communities and cities.
