Concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs), mostly in the form of industrial-sized chicken houses, are having a negative impact on water quality and wildlife habitat on the lower Delmarva Peninsula. Issues related to placement, zoning allowances, forest loss, permitting, eutrophication of water bodies, bacteria, drinking water, and sometimes point source inputs into waterways need to be addressed.
